  1. Bought a couple of sleeping bags, which is good, because I slept in one at the office a couple of weeks ago, and Cha and I slept in them for the first couple of nights here.

Really impressed – for $60 delivered, this is a terrific couple of bags.

This Beyond Vault Sleeping Bag provides comfort and quality.  It features a rectangular design with a detachable hood, and has a soft hollow fibre filling. It also has a draw cord on the top of the bag and around the hood as well as a wind baffle to keep heat in and cold breezes out.

  2. Well, we’re getting rid of stuff. I got rid of Cha to Bridgetown for a couple of days, then got rid of stuff.

About 8 x 55l plastic crates of books around to the op shop, 6 x shopping bags of cricket books to my mate at the WACA, a crate of videos and toys to the op shop.

And throwing stuff away! Oh, I’m good. Filled the (250l) bin for Wednesday, then filled it again for collection on the other side of the road on Thursday @ about 6:15am. (I deserve it for all the early morning wakeups they’ve given me.)

Making a couple of trips a day with the crates to the opshop. Man I’m efficient. Getting rid of shoes tonight, it seems. I’ve got some really nice shoes (from Rivers) which I’ll get to wear in Melbourne as I won’t be able to slope around in shorts and joggers :-)

  4. It’s not often that a local council does something useful, but the City of Stirling has done it.

They send out really useless rates statements, with no detail of costs or payments on it - they basically just want you to believe them. Not a lot of use if you want to keep records of what you’re paying.

So I emailed them, and less than 24 hours later I’ve got an excel spreadsheet with every transaction since the property was built, and I’ve balanced the account in Quicken. Good work.

  5. I’m still going well - the bin is almost full again.

Was a bit worried about the fact that it was not all that full this afternoon, but I found a whole bunch of computer magazines (and a whole heap of other mags) up here in the study, so it’s almost full. Next week I need to clear out the spare room downstairs. Then I’ll be struggling to fid thngs to throw away, and I can then move into organising what’s left.

Gave away a couple of drink bottles that had complementary freezer blocks last week. Much better to give things away than toss them, when you can.

I think we’re starting to get somewhere. The kitchen, the bedroom and the ensuite and the living area downstairs are all still spotless. Good.

  6. Yes, I have too much stuff.

Yes, I am trying to get rid of some. Well, a lot.

Lots of my stuff I don’t need. Time to work hard at getting rid of it, either by giving or throwing it away.

Good start - the 240l bin is almost full. Better leave some space for kitchen waste, I guess.

But I am trying hard to get rid of the junk I don’t need.

I don’t need it to be rich - more to the point, having it does a pretty good job of stopping that. I don’t mean financially, particularly, but … I dunno. But less is good, of that I am sure. Maybe I’ve passed the point where I need to own things to prove to myself that I’m not as horrendously poor as I was 15 years ago.

Waste not want not is crap, I’ve decided. Not that I’ll waste stuff, but I’m not going to accumulate it.

    Dunno.

Gotta go, got more things to ditch.

NB: Cha doesn’t seemed thrilled with my new attitude to things.

  7. Just had an accident out the front, and from the screaming I thought
someone had been killed. No, just a middle-eastern origin woman going
spare because she couldn’t get the back door open (the only part hit,
at pretty low speed) to get her kid out of the kid seat. Didn’t seem
to be able to think about going around to the other side to achieve
her aims. Deadset. Then another woman from the same part of the world
started screaming at one of the other cars involved about “you go too
    fast! You a idiot!”.

    <sigh>
